Why does Downey continue to sell more Toyota Leaf Spring Assemblies than all other companies combined? Simple, nobody else has the buying power we do! Other companies must buy from smaller spring manufacturers who lack our capabilities, or they must cut back on spring features. Their cut-backs have resulted in a product that is significantly inferior to original equipment (no safety features, no anti-dive features, etc.). To sell the best, you must manufacture the best! We have produced the “ultimate springs” by using original equipment blueprints, advanced capabilities, and good old Downey “purist” attitude!

We have assembled a fine collection of components that can be used with Downey's ultra-quality 3" lift front spring assemblies to create an economical "maximum articulation" suspension system. Here's the deal; you get Downey's 3" lift front springs, Downey's 3" LONGER RUBICON SPRING SHACKLES,taller Ford weld-on upper shock towers, and ultra soft 13" travel MV-12 shocks that open up to 31" long. Kit with 3" Lift Springs

Longer leaf springs provide dramatic ride improvement and increase suspension travel. Downey has later model rear spring assemblies that are 51” long, provide 2½” of lift, and can be installed on 79-97 4WD Pickups and 4 Runners (when using Downey’s new weld-on spring hangers) to replace existing 43” long springs. Front hangers will reposition approximately 2” forward and rear hangers will reposition approximately 4½” rearward. The long travel rear spring kit is available in two packages:

Package B includes 51" Springs, Spring Hanger kit, long travel shock mounting kit #480RS, two 5100 series Bilstein rear shocks, and rear u-bolt flip kit #48046-R.

Here’s additional ground clearance at it’s finest. More importantly, here’s rock crawling “toughness” at it’s finest. Now your u-bolts can glide over boulders without suffering u-bolt damaged and/or instant disability of the vehicle. Each kit includes four heavy duty u-bolts with heavy duty nuts and washers, and two macho ¼” thick u-bolt plates.

Sloped Hangers - Installing longer rear springs requires moving the front spring hangers forward on the frame. The factory hangers are too thin to cut off and reuse. These hangers weld under the frame, forward of the stock units. Made from ¼” plate steel, much stronger then stock hangers. 18mm bolt holes. Unpainted finish.

Shackle Hangers - If you’re installing longer rear springs you will need to relocate your rear shackle mounts. You can do this by cutting off the original hangers with a die grinder and installing new hangers. Our shackle mounts use OEM bushings and are much stronger plate steel. Unpainted finish.

3 Hole Spring Perch - When installing 4” plus rear leaf springs, it’s best to rotate the pinion so it points directly at the rear transfer case output flange, and use a CV style drive shaft. The best way to rotate the pinion is to cut off the old perches and weld on a new set at the proper angle. Normally the spring pin is installed in the center hole, but you can also move the rear axle forward or backward 1” by using the optional holes. Made from ¼” plate steel. Unpainted finish.

Crossover Steering is critical for rock crawling. The stock steering just can't keep pace with today's super flexible suspension systems. This results in broken stock steering arms and loss of steering. Our high steer kit features unbeatable quality at a super low price. Kit features super beefy, solid forged steering arms, heavy duty pitman arm, heavy duty .250 wall steering rods, and FJ-80 greasable tie rod ends. Precision fit for easy assembly. Can be used for 79-85 Pickup and 86-95 Pickups/4 Runners with straight axle conversion. 79-85 trucks use early style box but later style box can be used if you wish. Early style fits 86-88 Pickup and 86-89 4 Runners. Late style box fits 89-95 Pickup and 90-95 4 Runner. All boxes are completely rebuilt with new seals and bearings. Each is tested before shipping. 79-85 4WD Pickups are going to need an IFS steering box mount including inner and outer reinforced plates, grade 8 bolts, DOM tubing, and crimp nuts.

Add-a-leaf springs are designed to increase payload capacity, they carry an extra 500 lbs. Increased spring rate also means a firm ride when the truck is empty, therefore add-a-leafs should only be used on trucks that have a permanently mounted heavy load. Add-a-leafs have also become popular as lift kits because they are “cheap lift.” They give approximately 1

of lift on mini pickups. The T-100 rear add-a-leaf spring set lifts the back of the T-100 Pickup 2”. Tundra rear Add-a-leafs lift 2

. Unlike the Mini Pickup that suffers a firm ride with add-a-leafs, the T-100 and Tundra maintain a smooth, controlled ride because of the additional weight and length of the larger pickups versus the mini pickup. Longer rear shocks will be required.

These are 22” long add-a-leafs that allow removal of the stock lower load carrying leafs (AKA Diving Boards). These new leafs become the bottom “5th” leaf of a Downey 4 leaf spring. They do not increase lift or load carrying ability, but they do radically enhance off road vehicle control by allowing removal of the thick load leafs, which converts Downey springs into softer, more progressive springs.

Downey’s Double Shocking Kit includes upper shock mounting loops that bolt to the stock tower and through the frame with

hardened bolts. The lower brackets route both shocks back to a relatively stock location for parallel vertical action. We manufacture extended shock loops for single or double shocking. They extend 1

taller than the original towers. They are ideal for racers or pre-runners who demand maximum suspension travel because they allow an additional 1

compression travel without bottoming the shock absorbers.

This kit is built for serious off-roaders who understand how excellent ultra-soft rear suspension performs in fast pre-running conditions. This kit allows use of single or double ultra-soft MV-12 Doetsch Tech shocks in 8” or 10” travel configuration. The upper tubular crossmember is a weld-in design that permits custom positioning. Both shocks can be positioned in front of or behind the differential housing; both shocks can be mounted vertically or angled, and the tubular crossmember can be raised or lowered (before welding) to accommodate various shock lengths and/or travel. This kit also includes weld-on lower mounting brackets that can be welded to the front or back side of the differential housing.

	For 36 years we have sold heavy duty spring shackles with a welded-in gusset; the gusset locking both vertical side plates together to form a bullet-proof spring shackle. Downey spring shackles are constructed with 2” by thick steel plates, then silver zinc plated, and include hardened mounting bolts and self locking nuts.


	Downey now has a whole new spring shackle concept for serious off roaders! We retain the heavy duty 2” wide by thick steel plates, but we omit the gusset. WHY?, because we have proven that when there is radical spring twist (as on the Rubicon trail) the spring will destroy the outer collars of the spring bushings if the two shackles plates cannot move independently of each other.

Cantilever shackles provide 1" to 1 1/2" additional lift, and 4" to 5" of additional extension. Here's the story on "Cantilever Shackles":

(a) No additional overhang out in front of vehicle, common with scissor shackles.

(b) There is no metal-to-metal contact between upper and lower shackle plates. Shimmy between plates is eliminated with durable GAR-DUR® bushings. Toughness properties ideal for heavy duty industrial components. Bushings actually become harder during course of use. Bushings impervious to water, in fact water helps lubricate.

(c) Upper shackle plates are locked into frame at both ends (100% stabilized). This is accomplished with a unique snubber arrangement. Shimmy forces transferred into upper shackle plates actually force “V” snubbers to seat tighter into “V” blocks.

79-88 Pickup/4 Runner Rear

This formed steel gusset is designed to be stitch-welded onto the top side of the 1979-85 Toyota 4WD front axle housing after the torque rod mounting bracket has been cut off. Because of torque rod removal, this gusset can only be used on vehicle’s that have been converted to the high Steer or Crossover Steering system. The gusset adds “Mass” to the axle housing to help prevent axle housing deformation due to extreme use/abuse.

Here is a great way to add some beef to the 79-85 axle housing and protect the ring gear from trail damage. This weld-on plate is curved to fit snugly over the nose of the axle housing. The gussets are made from ¼” thick plate steel, and fit front or rear 8” Toyota solid axle housings (also fits 91-97 FJ80 front axle housing). In addition to our small style ring gear protector, we also have a larger style for those who prefer maximum protection for their 3rd member. Includes two 10mm allen head magnetic drain plugs.

This rear differential housing truss is identical in design to those used on almost every professional race truck. This kit is a weld-on design to produce a solid one-piece housing without bolt-on attachments that are prone to slippage. The over-the-top design lets you maintain ground clearance while adding strengthening “mass” to the housing. We have included a polyurethane fitting in the top center of the truss that can be utilized for your custom designed traction bar or kicker shock mounting ideas. The truss kit also includes an “extended” tube that must be welded over the original breather hole in the axle housing, chimney up through the truss tube, then continue up to the frame through provided breather hose kit. The differential housing does NOT need to be disassembled for truss installation.
